Traditional Acupuncture is an ancient system
of healing used for thousands of years in
eastern countries to restore and maintain
health. It is a holistic form of medicine the aim
of which is to balance ones vital energies
known as Qi Energy.
By inserting fine needles into specific points
along the energy channels, or by the smouldering of a herb called Moxa, the individual's own healing responses are
stimulated and the benefits should be felt on
the physical, emotional and spirit levels.
Acupuncture is now widely used and
accepted all over the world. In the UK as
more people are finding out what it can do
for them, it is gradually becoming assimilated
into conventional healthcare.
In 2009 the National Institute for Health
and Clinical Excellence recommended that
acupuncture should be made available on
the NHS, as a cost-effective short-
term treatment for the management of
early, persistent non-specific lower back
Many people from all walks of life will come
for acupuncture. Some for help with specific
symptoms or to relieve specific pains, for
example, osteoarthritis of the knee. Others
as a preventative measure or to enhance
their general sense of well being. It can
also be used very effectively in
conjunction with conventional medicine.
Because Traditional Acupuncture aims to
treat the whole person rather than specific
symptoms in isolation, it can be effective for
a wide range of conditions. However, due to
changes in the new Advertising Codes of
Practice from the Advertising Standards
Authority, we are no longer able
to refer, in print, to specific conditions as
being treatable with acupuncture, with the
exception of nausea, dental pain and
osteoarthritic knee pain.
